Ann Stubbs Harris McCarthy died Friday, August 6, 2010 at The Oaks at The Marshes on Skidaway Island after a long illness. Born on March 13, 1928, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Stubbs, Sr. After graduating from Savannah High School in 1946 she attended Wesleyan College and graduated from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Upon graduation she taught at Hancock Day School and Heard Elementary School for many years. She was an active member of St. Johns Episcopal Church where she served on the alter guild. Also, she was a member of the Savannah Golf Club and the Savannah Yacht Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Otis Stubbs, Sr., her husband, Stephen Raymond Harris, Sr., her son, Stephen Raymond Harris, Jr., her brothers and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Otis Stubbs, Jr. and Robert Stubbs.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her family: David & Katherine Clausen Harris Haight, their daughter, Reagan Elizabeth Haight, Stephen Raymond Harris, III, her nieces and their families, PV & Diane Stubbs Archer and Andrew, Cynthia Stubbs Brogdon and Emily Elizabeth Brogdon, her daughter-in-law, Penny Poole Harris. Her step children and their families: Duane & Patti McCarthy Mulnix & Patrick, Tom & Brenda McCarthy, Chris & Joe, Cody & Pam McCarthy, Summer, Claire & Cody, Brian McCarthy, Kevin & Lucia McCarthy, Bridget & Thomas, Lawton & Mary McCarthy Tison, Mary Catherine, Drew & Brennan.
Funeral service will be Monday, August 9, 2010 at St. John's Episcopal Church at 1:00 pm with a reception immediately following in the Parish House. Burial will follow the reception at Bonaventure Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 1 West Macon Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401 or to the Disabled Veterans.
I am a niece of Ann Harris McCarthy. Was so saddened to hear of Ann's passing and that of my cousin Ann's son ,Stevie. Would love to be in touch w/ Stevie's children and share memories of their father and GrandMother. In deepest sympathy, Laurie Armour 772-234-5077

Ann Stubbs Harris McCarthy married Thomas Nugent McCarthy in January, 1976. They were happily married for 10 years until he died in July of 1986.
